What is an AI?

How do we determine if an AI can be trusted?
The simplest way to determine whether an artificial intelligence system is a genuine AI is to see how it performs on a task, such as choosing a route.
An intelligent AI could be programmed to make a decision that leads to a better outcome than the alternative.
For example, an intelligent car could decide to take the wrong lane instead of following the road that it was programmed to take, even if the alternative was the safer route.

The AI’s Learning Traits The most obvious difference between an AI and a human is that the AI can learn through trial and error, and not through explicit instruction.
If an AI fails a task on the first try, it will be more likely to fail the next time.
This is because the AI cannot learn from itself, so if it fails it will learn from a process of trial and failure.
If the AI learns from the past and replicates itself, it may be able improve on its behaviour over time.

A human might remember something as important as the weather for example, but that doesn of course mean that the human is learning it.
Learning is not a process.
The learning process is an iterative process.
Once an AI learns, it learns as it goes along, not as it is.
Learning in this sense is different from the way humans learn.
A lot of the time, a human learns something from the experience that it has had, rather than the training that it is currently being given.
However, as an AI gets more complex, it gains more knowledge.
This means that as an artificial agent gets more sophisticated, it needs to learn more and more to learn to perform its particular task.
